Yellow dot pump

Post by Beast »

Can anybody tell how to correctly ID a yellow-dot pump, other than the yellow paint that has probably vanished after 27 years?

Thanks in advance.

So far these numbers, but obviously none indicate 'yellow dot' pump.

Yellow dot 1.5 pump. (107A)

Post by hagar »

Follow the YELLOW brick road ----follow the yellow block road.-------you got a REAL problem on your hands --- a 107A yellow dot came with some 1980 Rabbit 1.5L deluxe models from Germany----I have one on my 1.6L NA 1982 Rabbit ----the DOT has NO meaning if you "Hillbilly-TUNE" ---like hagar. ---if you ever find out the real story --let us all know. PLEASE.
I spent years trying to get information ----with a lot of run-around.----- I could put a dial on a DOT and a NO DOT to see if internal timing is different.----maybe this summer.

I did have one problem ----on the 1.6L ---I have to file slots ---or it can not be retarded to my liking.----other than that it works fine.

Beast - just to add to your list, I have a 068 130 107 AG on a 1.6D. Non-yellow dot. AFAIK it is the original pump.

Buzz, i have a spare i just checked with that 107AG code as well.
btw- what year is your car?

So I currently have a complete & original 1.5 in my '81 since the PO had motor as spare from rusty donor when the og motor was blown.

Question is should i bother replacing with the AG pump or "hillbilly-tune" the mellow-yellow pump?

Sorry about that - just realized that I never put it in my sig here. it's an '82.

As far as keeping your existing pump or going with the AG, I can't be of much help. I know (from Hagar's stories) that you can run a 1.6 on a pump from a 1.5 - I don't know if you can go the other way or not. I need to reseal mine due to the ULSD curse.

Yes, ULSD is bad. Find some b10 or b20.

I also have the set of injectors that came with the 107AG pump.

The lower injector body is taller on the 1.5's and the fuel opening at the top appears to be slightly smaller. So unsure whether the 'modern' 1.6 injectors should be used with the '80 107A yellow pump or not?

Also noted, the older Bentley (goes up to '81) specs w/ yellow dot:
0.83mm lift.

The revised Bentley (goes up to '84) specs w/ yellow dot:
1.10-1.20mm lift :?

Mine goes up to '82 and has the 1.10-1.20mm lift... guess someone made a goof in the '81...

Yellow brick road.

Yellow DOT pumps-----hagar said you have a real problem on your hands ?EH---?

That only means a problem ID of a Yellow DOT pump were paint is gone.

You have NOTHING to worry about as far a using ANY pump on ANY of the 1.5 L NA 1.6 L NA or 1.6 L Turbo engine ----any mix will do --up or down.

!07 is obsolete and ---is no longer made IMHO ---but no problemo ----BOSCH will tell you a replacement number ---like 109XX ---ask vwcaddy I think he runs a 1.9 L on a 1.6 L pump.

"Hillbilly-TUNING" is called for ----"TIMING" with dial will not work on worn pumps of any kind.

I got a 1.5L pump on my 1.6 N/A I got 62 mpg driving at 70mph for 2 1/2 hours on the highway no wind four speed(high revving type) in a 79 vw rabbit, also oil burning and completely worn out engine. I laughed at the pump when I filled the tank till it overflowed diesel on the ground. That was tuned by ear and considering a non turbo engine revving at 4400-4800RPM? thats great mileage!!

Does anyone have a picture of a yellow-dot pump that they could post so others know exactly what the infamous dot looks like?

Yellow Brick Road.--to FUN.

hagar brings bags and bags of good news about I P for Rabbits 1977 to 1984 . -----ALL models Turbo or NA or 1.5L or 1.6L ---- some may apply to other diesel models.

Yes I shall post a picture of a Pump 107 A with the DOT.---when ? say within the next ten years.

bag # 1 .----Pumps are BOSCH ---NOT Volkswagen.----BOSCH VE pumps are used on many NON VW engines.----the 107A number is Audi-VW--- 068 -- 130.----hagar calls them 107A types ---they may be in your Rabbit as a 109 AG ---or such.-----most numbers are like A --followed by one or two letters.---like 107AW ----inside the are all alike ---outside is a bunch of add-ON's----for switches and levers ----MY most valued add on ? ---the LDA --by far. On a NON turbo I put a cable on to operate it manually. ---On turbo I have manual on off. ---my afterburner (smoker) -in ON mode --- my Smileage QUEEN in ECO mode--off.

bag # 2. ----some Pumps with NO Audi-VW numbers may still fit and work---- look up the BOSCH number and ask Bosch if it will mechanically fit--------or check like I do.

bag # 3. ----I fill ---FILL pump with melted WAX and put in freezer to cool down ----then I can remove Governor screw to change O ring --- ----A DIY type can change ALL seals at home --NO problemo.

If you can't figure out the rest ---DO NOT START.

hagar.

PS : NOTE : governor screw and locknut are LEFT hand thread.--- Now my Rabbit's have a visitor a 72 seat school-bus ---International S1800 --one more toy DIESEL --to play with. Perfect shape with Ontario Kanada Plates.---It has a button saying ETHER start.----and I know why.---oh and some pumps for automatic transmissions --have a manual shut-down--like a cold start lever .
