IP timing suggestions
I am just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about how to time the injection pump on an 81 diesel rabbit. I have been doing it the standard way with the dial gauge indicator and all that, but it is really tricky to get it perfect with that thing. The book recommends timing it to .83 mm. The guy who resealed my pump says he generally puts them around 1 mm. Is it essential that it be exact? Is it better just to retime it and try to get it to where the car seems to have the most power regardless of what you time it to? Any thoughts on how to make this easier would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all your help - my car wouldn't be running without this forum.
If you'll do a search in this forum for injection pump timing you'll find lots of information and opinion. Your injectors and the pump wear with age, of course, and will affect the optimal setting. The Bentley manual suggests a setting of .98mm + or - .02 for 'improved performance'.
