I finally got a parts car to swap a 5 speed into my automatic rabbit. I have the transmission and almost all of the linkage out, the only problem so far has been the linkage mount on the steering rack. I was quite disappointed to find that part of the mount is welded to the steering rack, as the rack in the parts car is in pretty poor shape but good on mine. Can I swap out the tube that has the welded mount onto mine (and keep my internals) or should I cut off the mount and get someone to weld it onto mine? I would take it apart myself right now to find out but there are huge swarms of mayflies outside.
Thanks,
Jason
