81' vw caddy exhaust clips?

Post by surfing07 »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of another way of removing those two clips that are attached to the header pipe. I am in the process of removing the motor and cannot get those to metal clips off and I do not have that special tool the book says is needed, any advice would be great. Thanks. p.s. this a a 1.6 diesel engine.

Some ideas on the web page below:

I usually just use a heavy screwdriver to pry them off.

The 2 1/4 inch muffler clamp turned around works pretty well ffor spreading them to get them back on. Is the homemade tools thread still here somewhere?
There's a reference to that method in that thread
