Not to be argumentative but just the sake of accuracy of information. My engine is MF and is not hydraulic. (In USA)Quantum-man wrote:CY block is standard issue for VWs '82 ish onwards to '86 in the US.
Later hydraulic head versions were MF in the US whilst here in the UK; CY blocks carried on as hydraulic headed versions...
So its a 1588cc engine...
I was surfing on another forum and someone posted a thread asking for the part number of the three-way hose and someone replied with this number 068 121 053 P. It may be right or wrong but if all else fails give it a try.

I went to one of my parts suppliers in Chicago this weekend, to fix an order he messed up last year and could not get straight through the mail. They almost always screw up my order but the prices and parts are so nice I keep going back.
I asked for some head to waterpump hoses and they brought the wrong hoses out,... another order that would have been messed up if I wasn't there to check it. Well since they got it wrong, I got the 3 hoses for free. I thought they were upper rad hoses but they are probably gasser head to waterpump hoses. I still needed the hoses so he took me into the warehouse to find it. I found them, along with one of these 3 port hoses and talked him down to $24 for their last one. I've seen them online for a little less than that.
Ohhh, you should have seen all the parts, and the kid in a candy store smile on my face.

Will do. I have a large array of pictures from day one up until towards the end of the bulk of the project. Still not done yet. None of my projects never really finish. I need to take some current pictures and will post some up.chrischris wrote:Care to post some pics of this fun project? I would like to see your great work.
Thanks everyone for your help finding those hoses and identifying the engine.

A little about me... I am an ASE master tech with L1. I worked at Performance Acura in Chapel Hill the last 4 years. I got fed up with the poor management and quit. It looks like I will be working for the town of Chapel Hill (knock on wood). So, I am well versed with the mechanics of it all, but interior and body fabrication is something I am still learning...chrischris wrote:Care to post some pics of this fun project? Ok, here are the pictures I have taken through out the project. There are a couple things to keep in mind about this project. When I got this VW, I was planning on yanking the engine and saving it for....Something...One day. My wife said that she thought it would be good to have another diesel car. We have been making biodiesel for almost two years now. The problem was we only had one truck to run it in....A 14,000 Lbs (empty) M35A2 - A Deuce and a half military cargo truck. And so the project begun.... The plan was to do what was required to get it usable - Not restore it.
Most everything was serviced or replaced. When I did the motor mounts and belts, I rebuilt the injector pump with fresh seals so I didn't have to worry about biodiesel seal damage. I found a lot of half-a$$ed things done by the last "Mechanic".
Below are a couple before and after pictures. You can see all the pictures @:

45 Pictures In Total.
There are still some minor things to do. Still waiting on some parts, but we have been able to drive it for the last few weeks. A 15 gal tank @ 88¢ per gallon (Biodiesel) feels a lot better then a 50 gallon tank.
