Yeah....

People sometimes think the have the one one of something. There for it = GOLD!! + 10. he maybe should have searched ended Auctions first.

He probably bought it for $1000 locally and now thinks he will make a killing.

I have seen some sell for 3500-4k. Even some pickups at 5-7k. 6500 starting bid he would never get. People will pay more for these things then they cost to buy new 25 years ago!

There was a diesel rabbit in the Lethbridge Alberta Shopper (bargain finder thingy) for 1500. Body didn't look to bad.

That was the motivation to get mine on the road. I originally got it to pull the engine and scrap the rest. Watching eBay, it looks like you can sell the tailgate alone for $400.

Yeah my 79 is much nicer than that one and I would let it go for under 2K. I see it didn't get any bids (I had it on watch) and I didn't expect it to. Maybe he'll relist for a reasonable starting bid.

I asked about some 1.5 engines and here's the response I got.
i have one that you dont have to do anything to. 2000, for that one, it even hase the transmission.
I have two that you have to rebuild. those are 600 a piece call me if you want them

I wouldn't give 600 for a running 1.5L transmission or not.

I paid 300 at a scrap yard for a RUNNING 1.6L 12mm engine all removed from the vehicle and everything. That was a deal.

And you wouldn't even get a running 1.5 from this guy for $600! Doesn't Jack charge $2000 for a rebuilt and installed 1.6 w/o core? In any event, out here the engine and everything on it go for $200 at the socal j-yards I visit, but everyone I've contacted over craigslist/the tex wants way more. They like to point out that I can inspect the engine they have but I could get something that doesn't run a j-yard, like I would spend $200 on an engine w/o pulling the head/oil pan.

Last Monday I bought an 89 jetta 1.6 n/a . 103k real miles, all records, no rust and great interior for $800.
I saw it on a country carolina road and stopped hoping it was a diesel.

Funny thing was I just bought a gas burner to swap my 86 motor into.

I look like a real vw fan with 3 mk2s in the yard.

I've got an 1981 twenty inch Lawn Boy mower with an '84 bagger I'll let go of for $1500.00

It's the good two stroke kind... so it's clearly worth that, right?

Did I mention the recently rebuilt carb?

Hmmm, a 1.5, 4-speed.....probably the least appealing combination. It's worth $1500, but little more than that.....IMHO.
