Engine Rebuild/Intial Startup
I hear that running non-detergent oil (which is easy to find) for the first 3k miles is a good idea. Also allows the (chromoly) rings to seat. Should I just fill up my oil filter w/oil before intial startup? Warm to temp. then get it out on the road for short burst? This sound like the proper method? Much appreciated?
Don't know the answer to the non-detergent
oil question...
One thing you can do is take out the vacuum
pump and spin the oil pump shaft with your
electric drill. I think a 10mm (?) socket on a
short extension will work on the pump shaft.
This way, you pump oil through the engine
and lubricate the moving parts BEFORE start-up.

At a minimum, I would definately fill each oil filter full of oil every time you change your filter, and if your filter position allows you to pre-fill it. This saves your oil pump from having to pump enough oil to fill the filter before it provides the vital fluid to all the engine parts that need it.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.
