Ok I am sure someone has been there done that, so please tell me if it's a easy or difficult conversion. I am open to engine options in terms of which diesel I fit. I'll also need a source for the engine and any other conversion parts I made need.
This forum has me checking stuff out every day at this point...I am driving a 1991 Eco diesel at the moment and love it. I even had someone in an VW diesel pu drivinfg the other direction flash thier lights!
Heres to having fun with your diesel, thanks.

It is an easy conversion, completely bolt in. I put a 91 Eco 1.6 TD Engine into an 89 Gasser Jetta Carat. It took just over a month working on it on weekends mostly. I had a complete 91 Jetta EcoDiesel as a donor. I swapped everything, the engine, wiring harness, fuel tank, lines, etc. I wanted to get rid of all the gasser components and Digifant II wiring and use all of the diesel components. The Carat got stripped to pretty much the body and suspension. I did use the ASF code transaxle from the Carat instead of the EcoDiesel AVX transaxle. Major difference with the ASF I highly recommend it.
I did a thread on it over on the GTD forums.
It turned out really nice, I am completely happy with it. I still have things to do and lots if trim and cosmetic stuff to do. I also have yet to put the LDA equipped pump.
If you just have a TD engine to put in, it will still be really easy. The gasser transaxle and mounts will work. You'll have to remove the fuel pump and pre-pump in the tank from the fuel system, rig up an air cleaner, exhaust, fuel filter, etc. The gasser radiator might not be up for cooling the diesel and the hoses will be a tad different. For wiring, all you really need is 12V to the fuel cut off solenoid on the IP, temp, and oil pressure senders. The gasser wiring will have all of that, just use the 12V for the ignition coil for the fuel cut off solenoid. You can rig up a glow plug circuit and relay or just a push button for the glow plugs. Best to get a throttle cable as a gasser is different, a cold start cable, and a diesel starter too.
If you are interested I have a big box in the garage that has an extra and mostly complete and fairly uncut CE2 Diesel wiring harness with cluster (KPH not MPH and a clock), column stalk, fuse box and bracket, relays, throttle cable, and cold start cable I am thinking about parting with.
Good luck with it, let us know how it all turns out.
