anti-sieze on TTY head bolts?

I tried searching, but I couldn't get the thing to search narrowly enough.

Should I use anti-sieze on the head bolts?

I scrubbed out the bolt holes in the block with a wire brush and swabbed them all out with paper towels.

I've been using motor oil.
Whatever you use be sure to lube the washer near the head on both sides.
I think that's what does the most "popping".
'91 Golf gasser converted to a 12mm pump, M-TDI.
'84 1.6TD Rabbit with a VNT-15 turbo, still setup to run on vegetable oil.
'84 GTI with 1.7TD pistons and intercooled.

When I pulled the new bolts out of the bag, I realized they were already well oiled, so I went with that. I have them finger tight in there now, I will torque it tomorrow. It sure was a PITA setting the head on there with the manifolds on, trying to keep the gasket in place. I tried the dowels like the bentley said, but it was even worse trying to set it down OVER the dowels. I finally got it set there right and got the gasket in the right place.

I peened around the pre chambers before I put it on.

I agree. I used anti-seize on the threads and oil on the washers, and didn't get very much popping except on the 1,000mi retorque.

so what is the retorque schedule?

I followed bentley so far, which was torque to 30 and then 44 ft-lbs and then two 1/4 turns. Then Bentley says to warm it up and then give it another 1/4 turn, and then on the ME and MF engines another 1/4 turn after 1000 miles.

Is this pretty much what people are doing?

When you first put the head on, when you go to the 1/4 turn you can also do one half turn, or two 1/4 turns. But you aren't supposed to stop, it has to be consistent. Then start, warm up to operating temp, and another 1/4 turn, and drive 1000 miles, and another 1/4 turn. But, this is for the 12mm engines only, not the 11mm.

Yep I'm too lazy to look it up but that sounds exactly like what I did.

I did it in two 1/4 turns, and I assume when you mean not to stop, you mean not do an 1/8th, and then rest and then do another 1/8th? I did each 1/4 turn as a full 1/4 turn all at once.

I do have one of the 12 mm engines, ME code.

Yeah, you can do one half turn, or two 1/4 turns as long as they're full and complete. Thats good, 12mm engines rock:)
