?? how to replace bosch alternator voltage regulator brushes ??

mine are definately short and shot!

only produces enough power to run headlingts or heater, but not both well

also, the slip rings are well worn

Unfortunately, if your slip rings are well worn then your new brushes will wear in a very short time... if they work at all. Might make sense to put your brush money towards a rebuilt alternator.

Been there, done that.

Unscrew the bolts holding it to the alternator and remove.
'91 Golf gasser converted to a 12mm pump, M-TDI.
'84 1.6TD Rabbit with a VNT-15 turbo, still setup to run on vegetable oil.
'84 GTI with 1.7TD pistons and intercooled.
2003 TDI wagon
2000 TDI Jetta.

Check your diode trio while you've got that thing apart. If one or more diodes bad the alt will still work only it will put out much less power.

I did the brushes on an alternator (just two little screws/bolts on the back top of the alternator), but the alternator failed again in just a few weeks.

Often by the time the brushes are worn the commutator is as well... and it then grinds thru the new brushes in short order.

:idea: If you 'ovate' or is it 'ovalize' the screwholes on the brush set you can get extended life assuming your comutators aren't knackered... :idea:
