1999 Cabrio

[One W/the truckers]

It's not a diesel, but maybe someone can help me.
1999 Cabrio, my daughter was driving, put her foot on the clutch and it went to the floor. The cable came out of the clutch lever at the trans. Does anyone have any info on repairing this. The cable isn't snapped, but on the end, it looks like a metal washer or something that the cable slips thru is missing. Also there is a cannister (about 1 1/4 in dia and 2" long)type device approx 6" from the end of the cable (trans end). What is it?
