'85 Golf on the way to the scrapper

Post by Fatmobile »

I've had an ad in the classified for a week or so.
Went to Osh Kosh, WI to grab parts off a Golf that was finally headed to the scrapper.
Got my parts and here's what's left of the car:

I'm close to Oshkosh, but I need more parts like I need a hole in the head. Why was it going to the scrapper? The body (outside) doesn't look that rusted.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

Do either of you have a window sash you can spare?

First thing I noticed. Even if you don't need 'em, easy to ebay.

that's hard to see, considering the body and paint is in better shape than mine since its gotten a few parking lot dents and such since the below pictures were taken, and I drive mine daily and have it valet parked it at my work causeing my employer to ponder a tad :)

The guy who owned it is moving and it needs alot of work.
You can't see how bad it is rusted out around thr front windshield.
The driver's door bottom hinge is junk so the door hangs when opened.
I do have to admit it is my favorite year and body style, and I like the color.
The fuse box is right in the dash, easy to get to. Pockets instead of a knee pad.
Had the early squares.
The tail lights look good from a distance, but the reverse lenses were broken and crackled. I do regret not getting all the light bulbs and fuses though.
Window sashes went with it, you mean seals that go against the windows right?
I didn't save any door seals,... probably something else I should have grabbed, wouldn't take up much room or weigh much.

I hauled my 79 to the scrapper like that as well in the back of a 96 ford f-150 but I cut the car and folded it in half first then put the back section in sidways and the front end hung out the back, never took a picture though.
The VW RABBIT the most important car for VW second only to the BUG.

Actually it's the piece that holds the window on the bottom. At least that's what they called at the dealer where they wanted 85 clams for it

Mine is rusted in two on my caddy, and apparently they're all the same from '79-'93 or something like that.

Oh, I know what you mean.
The metal thing on the bottom of the window.
Someone should be able to get you one of those cheap,.. I don't have any spares.
