Me, I'm ready for a diesel lawn mower. Where do I get one?! I'm perfectly willing to plug it into the wall to run the glow plugs and the starter, then unplug it and go cut grass.
I've got one....Toro 223D groundmaster with 23HP 3 cyl Mitsubishi diesel engine... hydrostatic drive, power steering, hyd lift on deck, electric clutch for 5' wide 3 blade deck, 4wd, super comfort seat.... sweet ride (almost as good as the blond) ..... ;-)

3 bunnies, I see in your sig you have a cat 3208- my friends and I are starting a project of dropping a semi truck engine into an old F-350 for truck pulling comp, But we cannot decide what engine:

I want to use a turned up turbo 3208 and a Allisson AT525 as its nearly the same size as the stock 460 and C6 thats currently in the truck :)

My friend wants to do massive cutting wedge a Built 2 stroke detorit 6V53 into it and screaming 5,000 RPM bringing the crowd to there feet- makeing us money!

How has your 3208 been? Is it gutless like my friend says?

It's already on it's way. Already you'd be hard-pressed to find a new L-head lawn mower engine, they've all gone to OHV to meet emissions requirements. It's not a question of if but when cats will be required. You can also expect 2-stroke engines on leaf blowers and chainsaws etc to become extinct.

At some point I expect all these emissions requirements will make electric yard equipment so much cheaper than gas powered that only professionals or those with plenty of disposable income will own gas.

Go for it! Just be sure to post pictures of it here when you're done.

JRM,,, don't think i can help on this one...

Its a 3208 NA driving a 5 spd w/2spd single axle.... geared to run 3000 at 55mph or so,, at least that's my memory..

truck was originally used to pull beer wagons by local distributor,,, we put a 10' dump body on it and pull a 12 tom trailer with case 580d loader backhoe..... stuff gets used infrequently on the farm, odd jobs, cash on weekends stuff... but definitely nice to have... maintenance can get pricey!!!!

Engine starts every time, rough when cold, good when hot, has something over 200K miles and probably gets 5mpg

V config diesels are all junk, theres a reason why they don't put them in semis. The useable torque is at a too high rpm unlike any inline diesel where its at much lower. Do up a cummins 5.9 a old 12v one they can handle serious mods and tons of boost. I myself would not bother with V boat anchors but if you want to be different the old V diesel is the way to go.

I just finished doing some googling on the 5.9 because my brother-and-law broke down at my house with his 5.9. Theirs lots of internet site's set-up that do stitch welding for cracked blocks. Real scary pictures. It would seem that the high hp 24 valve 5.9's might be pushing the limit. They have come out with a new bigger block for people that want all his hp in the new ones.

Thats why you do the 12v ISB. Check the con rod compared to the power stroke(nav.) and the duramax(izuzu 6.6)

I fully understand the advantages of a inline vs a V type, as my friends are all huge cummins fans and love breaking the rear end loose at 60mph and are members to this page http://www.inlinediesel.com/ where they turn the cummins 24V engines up to around 1,000 HP with 50psi boost as long as they have new head studs and intercooler pipes

My bud and i are just makeing a sled pulling truck, and need as much power and noise as possable to bring the crowd to there feet- we are most likely going to drop a 2 stroke 6V53T jimmy into the old F-350 and build it to withstand 5,000 RPM or so. Fun times!
