injector pump problem

Post by iv111 »

Hi all.I rebuilt the pump and of course I can't start the motor. It runs for a second and stops(1.6TD Quantum). No air in the fuel, glow plugs-o.k.,a lot of smog from the exhaust, shut valve-o.k.The only I haven't done is I haven't used a timing gauge(still don't have it),but I did lock the pump and cam shaft at TDC.Is there another reason for that 1 sec. running. Thanks in advance.

Since you don't have a dial gauge for setting the static timing,.. have you loosened the bolts holding the pump solid and rotated the pump while the engine is running/starting and see how that effects it?
I'd guess the timing sounds retarded.

another thing to try is to pull out the cold start lever. If that helps, your timing is retarded. If it hurts, you're too advanced.
