what really makes me mad is the fact diesel is more $$ will hurt the auto makers who are again, trialing diesel autos in 2009- almost like its a setup for failure

But who knows what the price of anything is going to be in time. If we could tell that, we'd all be better off and probably not working. Maybe some other technology comes along so fast and works so well that the price of crude oil plummets down to $20-30 a barrel. Who knows, I sure don't. I still heat the house with fuel oil and about 4 years ago, started filling my main and second tank in the middle of the winter because the price was so good and the speculation for the summer was for higher prices. It never used to be that way.

I wouldn't bank on oil price going down anytime soon. The cheap conventional oil has peaked along time ago. The more expensive stuff tar and shale will be apposed by environmentalisms and cost even more. But every body likes to breath. This is real simplistic view but when you throw in geopolitical problems there are more negatives then positives.

Lately fuel prices have SLOWLY dropped a little. Not enough for an all out parade but every bit helps.

Good news for alternative energy people. Alot of jurisdictions are implementing windfall profit taxes. Alaska, Alberta, Newfoundland, Russia, etc. Its an easy sell with the people. Big bad oil. They are making huge profits and putting a lot of it into drilling with diminishing returns. Shell found 1.6% less, Exxon 6.5%, etc. Now a bunch of cities have banned together the boycott tar sands dirty oil. The response. A pipe line is being proposed across the Canadian Rockies to deliver dirty oil right to China. I can see more spikes in the oil price as the U.S. has to buy more oil off its enemies. Maybe another war would be a good idea or the U.S. become a leader in alternative energy.

filled up a tank today @ $1.19/L, gas at $1.32/L at the same station. Seems diesel is cheaper now?

Here it's still about 10 cents more a litre than gas (better than 20 cents more like it has been). It's making it a lot cheaper to run the diesel instead of the gasser again (when it was 20 cents more they pretty well evened out). It's given me incentive to get my diesel back on the road ASAP.

Gas just hit $3.99 today, diesel is holding at $4.13. Shortly, gas is going to be more expensive than diesel, like years ago.

Diesel was at 132.9 tonight. Glad I didn't have to fill up during the "shortage scare".

Be careful if your traveling to Northern Alberta. They had a fire at the Shell refinery in Fort Saskatchewan. They supply Flying J and a lot of others besides the Shell stations so try and keep your tank topped up if your in the area. I think I'll take some gas cans if I get called out to the area. It will probably give them another reason to raise the price.
