I've had more trouble with leaks around the cam seal than leaks around the front crank seal.
It seems to me like the cam starts to taper too early, the outer dust seal lip doesn't sit tight against it.

have any body tried to shortening the spring that keeps the rubber part of the seal tight in to the sealing surface??? we used to do that in the Army when no CV joint were available on the CV joints on the Hummers(where the CV joint goes in to the Hub)

Torque....

Post by nicknack2 »

GOT my block back from the M-shop, installed the oil squirters, I'm at the stage where I'm installing my crankshaft, the torque of the main bearing caps is 48 ft/lb IAW Bentley, but it seems kind of low what have you guys torque them to???

Front C/S seal carrier Bolts...

Post by nicknack2 »

I got my crank, pistons/rods and oil pump installed Saturday along with the front and rear crankshaft seals and seals carriers, one thing I noticed and I'm not sure if this is factory or not, on the front C/S seal carrier the very bottom left bolt that holds the carreir in place was of a different size than the other four that go on the same carrier, is this normal or was this modified on my engine???

That is odd, if you are talking bottom left.
If you are talking bottom right,... That bolt and hole probably hold the timing belt cover on.

Left as you face the front seal, and you are right , is the one that holds the timing cover, I just noticed that yesterday....
