Lowest diesel I saw here was 2.899/gal at a station on the Rez. Unleaded was 2.359 in town about 5 miles south.

Gas here is at 80.9/L while diesel sits at 103.9/L... Yuck...

Well at least it came down right? Does anyone know what a gas mk2 jetta gets for fuel mileage? It's about 500km to the tank right?

It doesn't look like the higher diesel price is going to stop anytime soon specially in the U.S. where taxes are higher on diesel than gasoline. Here's the Industries take on it that is hard to poke holes in. Oh maybe pin holes.

Nice graphs surf! I have been looking for a historical representation of diesel vs gas prices over the past few years for a while. Thanks!

Here unleaded is $1.49 and diesel is still at $2.29, im very affraid that this large difference will slow or even stop the new acura,subaru and F150 diesel options that were headed our way next year.
I even parked my golf, put it up on blocks, removed the insurance and am driveing the gasser as its $0.02 cents a mile cheaper to drive and a million times more modern- sad but true

It's not the higher taxes that's causing the difference in price, it's refinery costs. Check this out. ~10c/gallon in terms of refinery costs for gasoline, and ~50c/gallon in terms of refinery costs for diesel. This isn't solely the extra cost of ULSD. In fact, based on what I've read, it's mostly crappy crack spreads for gasoline, so in order to make a profit refiners have increased the crack spread for other products like diesel since the demand for it is consistent compared to gasoline.

Around thanksgiving I test drove a 2003 Golf TDi .A mile out I turned around in a local gas station Diesel had a substantial drop in the Hudson Valley around Poughkeepsie from almost $4 to $2.99;
It continues to inch down as Regular inches up.
Around Valentines Day 2009 I can find it around $2.49 on this(East ) side of the Hudson. Across the Hudson, I see it for $2.37 in NY if I cross the state line to NJ it drops to $2.15; Hess stations generally get $2.59 Both sides of the Hudson.My Nearest station just dropped to$2.59

Finally diesel is cheaper than gas in Alberta anyway. 82.4 vs 79.9 a liter for diesel. Fuel is right off the radar screen for now. It almost looks normal again. But wait I'm sure it will raise it's ugly head in the not to distant future. With all the cut backs in exploration and production that are happening 150 a barrel will be cheap going two to three years out in IMHO. Some of the small oil and service companies are down to a 10th to a 5th of there values. Who will enter the stock ticker casino.

diesel below $2.00/gal

Post by BlueDog »

Yesterday diesel dipped in price to $1.979 per gallon. Regular gas is at $1.799. I'm in Western Michigan. It won't last. I suspect these low prices are simply plenty of supply and very little demand.

I've been waiting for it to get below $2 for awhile but it's been hovering just above that around here.
