Tree limb nearly smashed the Fatmobile

Post by Fatmobile »

I parked the Fatmobile near the "pullin' tree".
It was very windy and cold, I heard something hit the ground hard, from inside the house.
On my way to the post office I see this:
Image

Dented my fender,
pulled the driver's side door handle off and bent the metal up around it

That limb fell from a long ways up,.. it could have been much worse.
Floor pans are junk on this car, but it's still solid, works for storage,... and starts great in warm weather.

If a tree falls and hits the Fatmobile, and no-one can tell the difference, did it really happen?

I was going to say, maybe some good came out of this in the fact that the tree scraped some of the rust off the car. Then again, if it's the rust holding it together, maybe that's not so good

Now, that's really funny!
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

Since the limb came from the "pullin tree"

will you turn the tables and use the Fatmobile to pull the limb away?

haa  , you guys crack me up.
That wasn't the limb I use to pull engines and lift cars,.. it was one much higher up.
The pullin' tree limb is the one holding the engine up in the background,... I can't find a picture of the whole tree.
The Fatmobile will not be used to drag the limb away. It will be dissected with a chainsaw and I will warm my feet near the fire, while giving thanks for the firewood donation.
Ash burns really nice.
That yellow piece of crap is a real thing of beauty!
Adjust your set Idhoho,.. It's a tan piece of crap :D

Of all my cars this is the one I would be least bothered by a tree attack.
The floor pan on the passenger side is gone,.. but i have some good parts in it,... the audi 4000 rear springs have it hopped up in the rear so it doesn't squat when loaded with wood.
It's still a strong body, the rear isn't going to break off while going down the road like Old Blue.
I'm not sure what to do with it. The most tempting plan is to put a great engine in it ( the 12mm block will some day be rebuilt and stuck in another car), take it to the PNW, find a solid shell for cheap, swap all the good parts over and drive a good Rabbit home. Sounds like a great roadtrip/vacation and a chance to meet some diesel dubbers on the way.

Yes I agree, looks like an assassination attempt. One can clearly see where the Rabbit jumped. Phil :D

Looking through "Projects" today, I was amused to find this prescient observation and comment from back in December 2006 regarding the "pullin' tree":
Image

Andrew said: "Jeez, Fatmobile, you've lifted so many engines by way of that poor tree, that you bent that big limb."

Fatmobile replied: "That limb does have a weird curve in it. It has always been there but it looks like the little Rabbits have been putting a strain on it, ha. It's an ash tree so it's good and strong. An ash tree did get blown down on the other side of the house/shack... huge tree but none of the limbs broke off. It came up by the roots."[/img]
