oil and coolant leak

Post by oilburner »

I have a 91 Jetta 1.6 n/a. There appears to be a small oil and coolant leak on the rear drivers side area. My plan is to clean it up with degreaser and try to determine where the leaks are coming from.

The car doesn't smoke, doesn't appear to use oil or coolant at least very fast. I've only got 300 miles on it since I've had it. I'm trying to ensure I don't blow a head gasket in the middle of the freeway.

Is there any prone to leaking appendages attached in that area I should be looking into? My Bentley is on the way so I'm looking for opinions while I wait :)

A minor annoyance that I've noticed is sometimes when I start the car, the horn will blow. Its the wierdest thing. The first time I thought I hit the button but its happened a couple of times since. Short in the steering column? I vaguely remember something about the key touching the metal around it and closing the circuit? Am I remembering correctly?

Thanks for the help.

There is an oil pressure sender near there,...
and I've caught several of them leaking.

The coolant flange on that end is plastic and is prone to warping,..
good news is they are cheap at the dealership.
