Boost Gauge Buzz Fix DIY

Post by Op-Ivy »

My new cheapo $5.00 Princess Auto 0-30psi pressure gauge (my boost gauge) was buzzing after I dropped my old one and had to replace it.

For some reason the last one didn't buzz at all but this new one did. I even went back to exchange this new one and the next one buzzed too. Damn...

So after reading up on fixes for buzzing boost gauges I found out that by restricting the line to the gauge to a smaller diameter you can stop the buzzing. I know you can buy restrictive fittings on the internet but instead of doing that I just quickly made an adjustable one with some nuts, washers and a bolt.

It works by restricting the line going to the gauge exactly as the restriction fitting does. However, this fix will only work with soft lines.

Materials needed
2 nuts
2 washers
1 bolt or anything as long as it has threads that the nuts can fit on

Steps:

1. Drill a hole in the threads of the bolt that is just wide enough to fit your line into.
2. Thread the nuts on with the washers and insert the line in.
3. Tighten the nuts down to restrict air flow.
4. Go for a drive and test it.

If you go too tight and get no reading on the gauge then obviously you've tightened it too much and need to back it off a touch. However, the gauge should stay accurate as long as you don't over tighten it.

I don't have a picture of it but I made a quick diagram:

Stuffing the tube with cigarette filter tip wadding, cotton wool, whatever works too.

Good trick,..
drill a hole in a bolt and smash the hose with a couple nuts.

I tried soldering the inside of some brass fitting. Couldn't get it just right.

I like the adjustability.
