Shift linkage parts HELP!!

Post by kevin g »

Hello. I have just installed a shift linkage bushing kit in my 1989 jetta td. Everything went well except I broke one of the whiteish coloured plastic pieces that connects the ball joints in the linkage, located right behind the tranny. Im not sure of the name of these things. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on some new ones???

Thanks!

A scrapyard would be your best bet. I'm not sure if you can get that piece alone. Or someone on here might have one laying around.

Sounds like the forward or rear selector rod:

I use an all metal replacement:

All parts available separately:

I would imagine Jack sells linkage kits as well, not sure if individual parts are available through him or not. Looking at his ordering page, I only see these two items:
- Shifter Bushing Kit 77 - 84 R / J $18.95
- Shifter Bushing Kit 85 - 92 G / J $19.95
So maybe he does not carry the actual linkage pieces, sounds like only the bushing kits.

Jack sells shifter rods,..
VWCaddy sells shift rod upgrades.
They do the same thing but are in a seperate class altogether.

kevin g, I bet it was the short, all plastic rod, I've tried to snap one of those on before and had a piece break off. Brittle plastic.

I just purchased an all metal rod kit from VWcaddy...the one posted above. I usually buy my parts from Jack whenever I can, but I really like the idea of the all metal rod from 4crawler. Now I just hope its the right stuff lol
And yes Fatmobile!! you got it! that little plastic piece!
