special socket for 1.9 TD injectors?

Post by mfgavia »

I need to remove the injectors from a 1.9 AAZ TD engine and I can't find a
socket deep enough to fit over the injectors.

The socket I used on my jetta's 1.6 injectors won't work.
I've been all over greater Portland, OR in my search for another and so far
no luck.

Does this require a special Bosch/VW socket? Anyone have a source for an
affordable alternative?

thanks!

I've never had a problem with the longer 1.9 injectors, but deep sockets do vary inside. I use a 12 point 1 1/16" Craftsman socket from Sears. I have had to bend the return tubes in slightly to get the socket to slide over, but rarely. The injector by the aneroid (#2) is harder to get out with my socket. I think I ground a bit off the aneroid housing, to get the socket to slide on.

If I go ahead with a swap project with my spare 1.9 TD, I'm seriously going to look at put the older(shorter) 1.9 injectors in and bending the fuel lines to fit. That way I can rebuild the injectors myself. Phil

If the lines are like the old 1.6 lines, is bending them without breaking them even possible?
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count

I haven't had one break yet, and I've bent them to get an injector out. Phil
