Look what I dragged home! 1.9L industrial engine
I bought a piece of construction equipment off of ebay. I drove to the location (a shipyard) to pick it up and as I'm walking through the yard, I stumble upon this engine sitting on the ground. After some negotiation, it was mine. Its a 1.9 liter block. Engine is frozen. Turbo is also frozen and the turbines have caked on rust. I suspect that this may have been connected to a generator or a pump, and that it was mounted on or in a ship. I've always been interested in building a VW diesel generator so this seemed like a good starting point. I have some 1.6 liter motors that I assume can bolt up to the bellhousing.
I was able to remove injectors #2-4, but injector #1 seems like it is welded to the head. I did not want to break anything, so I sprayed the area with WD-40 and I'm waiting for it to do its work. Any tricks to getting out stubborn injectors?
This is my first time posting photos, so if they don't come out, its back to the drawing board.

Cool find. What did you pay for it? You may want to read the post on penetrating oils. You can probably head up the injector/head area and try to wick in some parafin wax. Try it a few times before you try to remove the injector. Also, be careful which way you torque the wrench to remove the injector. You may crack the head.

Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

What a lovely little beast!
I'd soak that stuck injector with ATF and every couple hours tap it (lightly) with a small Peen (very small, very lightly). If it is still stuck I'd try to heat the head with the injector wrapped in a wet rag to cool it. The difference in expansion may do the trick to wick in some of the ATF and help bust it loose.

Thanks for all the tips. Haven't done anything else to it yet. When I get that injector out, I'll remove the head and see what the cylinders look like. It may have been run out of oil. Perhaps the crank is seized in its bearings - I do not know yet, and no one at the shipyard had any first hand knowledge of what the history of this motor was.
That starter might not be any good. I haven't tried it yet. Certainly good for a core!
I paid $75 for it. I may have overpaid for the piece of construction equipment, so they probably gave me a break on this engine. But I think they wanted it out of the yard. It was sitting on the ground outside, uncovered, and no one there appeared to be interested in VW diesels. I was at the right place at the right time.

That's an SAE standard bell-housing and flywheel isn't it? (I saw a chart once on what the SAE housings were for a particular HP range...)
