1981 Rabbit Diesel 4 sp - custom body
Welcome to the forum. Any 1.5L or 1.6L diesel engine will be a bolt in replacement. I would shoot for the 85 and newer 1.6L engine as that has the hydraulic head on it, for less maintenance (you can search the forum for how to tell the difference). At a minimum, you need to get a 1982 or newer engine with 12mm headbolts or else you may have head gasket sealing issues, or cracked block issues. All 1.5L's have the bad 11mm head bolts and the early 1.6's to about mid 1981 or mid 82 had the 11mm head bolts.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

motor
I have a vw diesel motor complete with injection pump, timing belt still on. It is a low mileage motor with about 80,000 miles that has been in storage for about 5 years now. I sold my collector rabbit car, and bought a bmw diesel and haven no use for the motor.
