Air Contitioner Adjuster Bolt

Post by wewantutopia »

Hi everyone, haven't been here in a while (no problems with the Jetta in a while). I noticed the other day that the voltage was fluctuating more than normal. Today I went to adjust the alternator idler to increase the tension on the belt. I was looking first with the engine running and noticed the crank/water pump/A/C belt was loose and the alternator belt was fine. Upon closer inspection I noticed the right adjuster bolt was gone.

The vertical bolt (the one you would put the ratchet on adjust the tension) is sill there, but the bolt that goes through both the AC compressor and bracket with a hole in it is gone.

Now I have no idea the "official" name of this bolt, or a bolt with a threaded hole in it. Is this something I can pick up at Napa or is it special order only? Any help or ideas where to look/start would be greatly appreciated!

You can get one at NAPA.
Same size as the one that's still there,
other side of the bracket.

There's a catalog available for free at http://vagcat.com/

You need to sign up for their forums to get access to details, but that's free too (I've never actually posted anything there)

The catalog will let you look up practically everthing including bolt specifications, part numbers, etc etc. Well worth checking out for this kind of thing.

Thanks for the link to the catalog, I couldn't find the bolt, or any air conditioner parts for that matter.

Fatmobile: the bolt on the left side doesn't have an adjuster bolt through it. It is just a bolt through the compressor and bracket with nut. Any other suggestions as to the size or how to describe it to the Napa guy? Thanks.

The alternator tensioner should have a similar (perhaps longer) bolt with threaded head. You could take that to NAPA as an example.
Have a nice day.

I was confused,.. was thinking A1 too.

Might have to find a used one or check with the dealership.

On my 82 Rabbit with AC, I had bolts go missing. Since I didn't know what sizes etc I needed, I went to the dealer. They were able to order every bolt that I needed. You can always default back to this if other sources don't pan out.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.
