Yes, those are coolant pipes. This is the back of a Vanagon. The radiator is in the front.

Is the radiator just out of view in this picture or is it mounted elsewhere??

I think they were used in the early '90s Passats in Canada for one.
I think that maybe the case. I remember the mechanic who put it in said he thought he remembered it being an engine from Canada. I wish I could get a manual for it. Maybe I'll look into those early '90s Passats.
Hello all. New guy here. Thanks for having me on the forum.
I have been trying to id my 1982 Vanagon diesel engine using all the good advice here but have run into the following: the machined area on the block shown in the photos has no stamped numbers or letters on my engine. I am positive I'm looking at the correct spot. I have cleaned and wire brushed the surface and used a good bright light and my best pair of reading glasses:-)
I know this much: it's a 1.9 and has no turbo. It runs great and will cruise the freeway all day long at 75 mph. Unfortunately, I lost a folder containing all the info on the van and engine upgrade and contact info of the guy that put it together.
My reason for this post is my fuel injection pump has started leaking and I have access to an AAZ pump but don't know if it will work. Anyone out there have any advice?
Just a few years late....
28F01 is actually 28B01, which is an industrial engine manufactured between middle of 1990, and middle of 1991...
