stalling?

Post by Jim Halstead »

Hey, I've got an '81 1.6 NA. Yesterday while running down the 4lane at 80+ mph,it quit. When I pulled over and stopped,it was idiling. Took off again, and it was fine until holding 80+ again, and it did the same thing.
Took off again and stayed between 70-75 mph,and all was fine. Is it the governor? I thought the gov. just
limited the rpm. Any ideas? Thanks.

To me, that sounds like fuel starvation. Change your fuel filter and install a clear line for both the supply and return lines for the fuel lines under the hood. If you see bubbles, you've got a restriction or air source in the fuel line somewhere. You could also have the inlet screen in the tank plugged too. Fatmobile has details on how to install a vacuum gauge on the IP that will show what vacuum your fuel system is under to help determine when a problem is showing up in fuel delivery.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.
