Bentley for a 79 on an 81?

Post by Una »

Can I use a Bentley for a '79 diesel Rabbit to set the pump timing on my '81? I'm getting a rebuilt pump tomorrow (thanks Jack), and I don't have any kind of manual for this car yet. The local used book store has a Bentley for '75-'79 Rabbit/Scirocco including diesel.. So I'm wondering if the timing settings and procedures would be the same, making that book useful for me?
Or simply a website that covers this in great detail would be fine too, especially if that book won't fit the bill..

The actual dial gauge setting on the IP timing may be slightly different between the years, but 99.9% of what's in that book will work for your car. Things like the wiring diagrams may be radically different, since the older book won't include what would have changed for the 81 model. That could require you to go get a different one with the correct wiring diagrams in it sometime down the road. How much they asking for the Bentley?
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count

Anyone know where I can buy the pump timing adapter tool, without buying it online or special ordering it somewhere? Is it something that Sears, or Napa or Autozone or something stocks? I have a dial indicator, but not that adapter. Or, has anyone come up with a diy type solution that will work in a pinch?
