Clutch repair for 2003 Golf TDI

Post by wild3bill »

Clutch started slipping real bad yesterday.I got my 2003 Golf towed to a transmission shop. The service manager at the Transmission shop was appalled at the outrageous price VW Stealership was asking.Any one have experience with clutch replacement and problems due to a special flywheel?
Transmission shop got solid flywheel and clutch for 3/4 of VW's part price, (over a thousand) Dual mass fly wheel $700 alone labor to do the job $500.

Look around on line. There are a couple of places that sell kits at a third or half the price, And without the stupid dual mass flywheel.

Upgrade to G60 solid flywheel with Vr6 clutch.

Call jack to see if he stocks it. If not I'm sure he can get it.

The transmission shop doing the work said they had a source in Ohio that has shipped them a solid flywheel and an upgrade cluch. Should be done tomorrow.

Transmission shop failed to realign engine after transaxel R&R. Used brute force to position transmission dog bone mount nto reattach it to frame.Dog bone to frame bolts broke off.An engine pulley cut expansion tank coolant hose.Later bolts broke again. This time pulley cut power steering hose.Golf was in third or fourth shop for A YEAR extracting broken bolt pieces from frame.replacing coolant hose again.Power steering pump and cut hose had to be replaced too.Engine had to be re aligned to remove excess tension from dog bone mounting bolts.

That dual mass flywheel seems to be an experiment gone wrong. A friend of mind had a vibration in this newer Dodge Cummins. All the shop wanted $12000 to rebuild the motor. He put a solid flywheel in and old clutch assembly in to solve the problem.

Good thing you did not let the dealer rip you off. Bummer.
