New to the diesel world!

I came to have a 91 ECO diesel with 71,000 miles. I am new to the diesel world but have owned vw for many years. I looking for advice on what kind of oil I should be using, I live in Michigan that can get cold at times (20 - 40 degrees in the winter).
What other things should look at or do to get many more years out of her?

Since the ECO diesel is a turbo motor I would also say synthetic. The ECO motor I had was stamped or labeled to use only synthetic oil but I don't remember thee exact spec. Rotella synthetic is a great oil in my opinion - I agree with caveman 100%.

I'd probably run 15W-40 in the summer and 10W-30 in the winter - all diesel rated oil. IF this car is new to you, change your fuel filter and check your timing belt. If it's worn, replace it and the tensioner (and water pump, hoses, belts, yada, yada, yada).

Oil companies are playing games with synthetic oil. A lot of it is not 100% synthetic so read the lables carefully. I been using Shell which doesn't have that deceptive advertising like Castor which I find is one of the worse. Also look for the CH4 rating which will give you a better high temperature and rpm rating.
