Newbie seeks advice on potential 91 Jetta Diesel purchase?

Hello everyone!
I'm considering a local purchase of a 91 Jetta Diesel, 300,000 km, $1,000 obo
I've not seen the car yet in person, photos only.
rust free, excellent runner, good tires.
does this seem to be fair value?
any issues with this year/model?
Parts availability from stealership or otherwise?

any advice or opinions appreciated!

Besides the other things one should look at when buying a car, make sure to check out the compression.

Price is fine assuming it is in decent condition. They pop up for about $1000-1500 in the BC area somewhat often, though at that price it's usually a not-so-nice paint color. At $1K there's not really much that you can say one way or the other - a running drive-able VW diesel will sell for $1k minimum all day long.
