Injector fuel return lines - almost no flow!!!

Post by Nevadan »

I just put some clear plastic motorcycle fuel line on the injector return lines and there's very little diesel going through them. After starting the engine the fuel was not visible in the lines for about 5 minutes. Is this normal?

When I pulled the return line off the out-bolt there was a good flow of fuel from the out-bolt but nothing from the injector return lines. What's happening, why isn't there fuel coming form the injectors?

I put new nozzles in the injectors about a year ago and have not had any problems. The car gets 38 mpg and runs good since my re-ring. (Other than the low oil pressure I just posted in another link!!!!!)

Some have posted here that there should be a fair amount of fuel coming from the injectors. My observations on my engine are the same as yours. It seems very little fuel flows from my injectors. Personally, I've never paid much attention to it.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count

O.K., good!
I just don't want to ignore something that would be obvious to an experienced eye.

Good tight OEM standard nozzles pass almost no diesel, as per leakdown test.
Pull the common line from banjo to injectors and you will get a jet of diesel, hence diesel seen in leakoffs is from returning fuel from pump. This back pressure is why the push fit lines are so prone to leaking

If you do actually have lot's of leakoff then nozzles are low spec...
Not the end of the world, but need to be a matched set of equal quality to avoid permanant differences in injected fuel volumes and uneven engine running

EDIT make that 'Leakoff'

That is a good idea. How do you enter the tank?

Good question! How to you get the nozzle leakoff back to the tank?

Perhaps because I have 2 tank and valves it`s eazy, but I don`t see why this will be prob with 1 tank,T on standard return long way from IP with oneway/check valve. In my case it`s after 3way return valve, but my flow from injectors is so little aka ~20 ml for 35 min,I have writen about.
