Parting out 1981 4-door MK1 Rabbit: Chicago

Post by supersisu »

Now that it's warmer, I'm starting to pull parts off my red rabbit Rosebud. The front is all smashed and I'm keeping the engine/trans. Let me know if you need anything and I can tell you if I have it, its condition, and send you a photo. I need to keep it a roller so that somebody can come and get it for scrap.

Thanks,
Erik

I'll be pulling the motor out very soon, scrapping the body. If anyone wants it, it's free and I have the title. New hubs, tie rods, front suspension bushings, etc. Decent tires and rims. I took the new front brake calipers off. Can post photos if anyone wants to see it.

Do you have the windshield wiper motor? I need one for my 83 rabbit.

I do have the fuel sender, it worked before the smash-up. I can pull it and send you a photo, if that helps.

Square headlights on my car, or I should say it used to have them, the front end is completely destroyed.

I know for sure a MK1 sender won't fit a MK2,..
maybe the wound resistor would swap though, I have even looked at that.

There's no circuit board on my sender, just a wound resister and a two prong plug. I can upload a photo if you want, but I think fatmobile is correct.

All gone, I offered it to some scrappers; they got a tow truck to come out. The tow driver was a bit irritated, it seems they didn't tell him that it was already stripped, (no engine, etc.). So he wouldn't give them $100, he offered $50, they tried to hold out for $60, but he wouldn't budge. The scrappers cut me in for $16, I went right out and bought a $16 bottle of wine.

So the final tally for my Rosebud is: $1006.20 from adverse parties insurance, (I would have gotten and extra $116 if they would have salvaged) I pulled 60k engine (rebuild kit from Jack), new brake drums and calipers, etc. etc. It was getting pretty rusty, so much so that I wouldn't have felt comfortable selling the car to somebody else. So all in all, it worked out okay.
