Just ordered a used lower belt cover for my 81 diesel pickup engine ... part number is 068 109 127A.
See comments that removal, and related install (me), may be difficult.
Has anyone any directions, etc. Of course I also need to order mounting 'goodies' also.... my unit missing when bought the truck.
Thanks

If this is just the lower crank pully belt cover, it's a simple install, except for the removal of your Vbelts and lower pully. Otherwise, there's nothing special about it's install. What has you suspecting that it's a complex install?
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

In trying to find information, read an old post (not here) that indicated removal of injection pump and all other nearby items; so thought I'd check first.

It should be an easy bolt on with no work to the timing belt at all, that would/could necessitate dealing with the IP. If you're redoing an engine mount at the front of the motor, that's different.

Re: Lower belt cover help needed
There is one bolt for the lower TB cover that goes through the waterpump housing. It has a T shaped head that barely fits under the AC/alternator bracket. The bolt extends out from the waterpump housing and a nut goes onto it to hold the top-forward corner of the TB cover.
If that bolt is missing, the bracket usually needs to be removed, which usually means removing the IP. The bracket needs to be carefully replaced with the Tee-bolt oriented flat, to avoid cracking the water pump casting.

BUMMER ! ! !
Just realized, after studying ETKA closer, that what I ordered is the gas version rather than diesel.
Have now cancelled it.
My goof.....
If by chance anyone knows of diesel version, sure would appreciate notice.
TIA

Re: Lower belt cover help needed
Check the dealership if you want a new one.
They are way more spendy than a gasser lower timing belt cover, about $35 last time I bought one.
But that's the only place I know where to find them new.
The MK2 has a tin shield behind the belt, that might be what they were talking about needing to remove the pump and motor mount to install/remove.

replaced same exact part recently. the new price was either 80 or 100 dollars, I forget. Might be worth looking around for a local vw mechanic or hoarder
