Yes, those are coolant pipes. This is the back of a Vanagon. The radiator is in the front.

Is the radiator just out of view in this picture or is it mounted elsewhere??

VWCaddy wrote:Sounds like the engine in my '82 pickup. A 1Y, non-turbo 1.9L. It was shipped from South Africa as I understand and from Vege-Motoren according to the paperwork I have. Some links below:

I think they were used in the early '90s Passats in Canada for one.
I think that maybe the case. I remember the mechanic who put it in said he thought he remembered it being an engine from Canada. I wish I could get a manual for it. Maybe I'll look into those early '90s Passats.

Thanks,

Looks a lot like my westy's engine.

The PO put a 1.9 long block in my westy, about 6yrs ago. I can't find his receipt, but the shipping docs show it originating in Scottsdale, AZ.

It was an industrial engine (prolly for a generator). Only last year did I discover that the glowpugs were 24V.

It starts much better now, with 12V glows and a new starter.
Have a nice day.

Hello all. New guy here. Thanks for having me on the forum.

I have been trying to id my 1982 Vanagon diesel engine using all the good advice here but have run into the following: the machined area on the block shown in the photos has no stamped numbers or letters on my engine. I am positive I'm looking at the correct spot. I have cleaned and wire brushed the surface and used a good bright light and my best pair of reading glasses:-)

I know this much: it's a 1.9 and has no turbo. It runs great and will cruise the freeway all day long at 75 mph. Unfortunately, I lost a folder containing all the info on the van and engine upgrade and contact info of the guy that put it together.

My reason for this post is my fuel injection pump has started leaking and I have access to an AAZ pump but don't know if it will work. Anyone out there have any advice?

75mph... my westy wouldn't do 75mph if pushed over a cliff. (low gearing)

The AAZ IP might not clear the lid if it has an aneroid chamber.

I'd consider selling the AAZ pump and resealing the current IP (not hard to do), which seems to be getting the job done.
Have a nice day.

Just a few years late....
28F01 is actually 28B01, which is an industrial engine manufactured between middle of 1990, and middle of 1991...
