Fuel tank question

Post by jettaman8691 »

I removed the fuel tank from the pickup I am working on so it could be cleaned, inspected, and rust-proof painted. Since I cannot be sure the quality of fuel used previously, I am concerned about plugging of any screens or valves that may be present inside the tank. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Yes, there is a removable screen in the tank.
It pulls out with a hook.

Thank you. I did use a hole cam to look inside the tank and saw it, but did not know if it was removable. Once removed, how the heck would a person put it back ? Pretty screwy way to do screening. It looked fine, though, so not going to worry about it.

I pull the screen with a bent piece of used brake line.
It reinstalls the same way.
You should pull it now, while the tank is out.
You can't pull it with the tank in later,.. without cutting a hole in the bed.

I also use a fuel pump with a fuel filter in front of it to clean the area around the filter.
Pulls the fuel out, filters it and puts it back in the tank,.. it "vacuums" around the filter.
