Finding TDC using a tube with ATF (diy manometer):

Image

I'd hook the tube to the cylinder using a compression adapter or a stopper with a hole. I'd try to get kinda close to tdc before hooking up the hose... don't want to draw fluid into the hole or blow it out the tube.

This guy uses a pressure/vac gauge:

I don't know if this applies to the AAZ engine, but it works for finding the TDC for the crankshaft on the 1.6's. See my second post with pic here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11019&p=76009

Basically, when that dot is at the 7.5 o'clock position and the two cooresponding bolt holes are lined straight up in-line with the cylinder (not straight up - level wise), this is TDC. For me, it was a fairly accurate way of finding TDC. Not exact, but really, really close.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

Feel so lost with this crap! Found mark on the pump pully but not on the bracket? I also tried a basic fuel delivery check. Per a VW service manual. I cracked the fuel line at the injector turned the motor over with key and full battery. It only dripped. Shouldn't it be high pressure? Spray out?

im not up on your other goings on, but; a good amount of fuel comes out when you do this, did fuel drain out and you have air in there now?

Each injector only gets a drip of fuel at idle. When the lines are snugged up, it's a 2000psi drip.

At 50mpg, there really can't be much fuel on each hit.
Have a nice day.

That's why I say opening the injectors to check for fuel doesn't tell you much.
A half full pump will still splash diesel into the hole and you will still see fuel at the injectors.
Clear fuel lines to and from the pump will tell you if the pump is full, and clear lines between the injectors can tell you if an injector is bad.

Soon everyone will hear the word and follow the way,.. of the clear fuel lines.
I just had another problem with air exiting the pump, caused by a bad injector. I wouldn't have noticed it without clear fuel lines.

Opening the metal injector connections might be helpful in diagnosing a no start situation,
after you've made sure there is good, air-free fuel flow to and from the pump,
and it still hasn't started with your foot to the floor and some cranking.

the one and true way; find the true way thru fatmobile,, that which i havent done yet, shame on me,

while true cracking inj lines doent tell you much, its 1 starting point, if you have fuel there, go a step before and check glow plugs, if no fuel, start trace before pump.or check solenoid.

Gotta disagree with opening the injector line being the #1 step.
To me it's the last step, after you know fuel is flowing from the tank, through the pump, without air.
Before that; it gives useless info.
