Oil spewing out of breather 1.9l na

Post by Bpcaddy »

Don't know what 1.9 it is, but it has an arm coming off the front of the engine with the oil filter facing up and screws onto that arm.

On top of arm is a two piece metal large pen diameter size brass peice that screws into top of arm.

It is spewing oil out of the peice!!

The peice has a hole through it and can oil guess it is some type of breather.

Any info guys?

Thanks in advance

The description of the oil filter flange as having a leaking brass item screwed into it, sounds like someone has installed a temperature or pressure sender there, possibly on a brass pipe nipple extension. That area of the oil filter flange 'sees' full oil pressure, usually quite high at cold start up in our VW diesels. Leaks, seeps & drips are some of the nicer terms used to describe escaping oil in that area. :)

Are there any markings (brand stamps, identifying letters or numbers) on the leaking brass piece?

if the filter is up isnt the flange reversed, and you have the oil flow reversed too, is the brass screw part of a line? on top of the flange, with filter pointing down, you have prob 2 fittings, 1 for oil pressure sensor, and 1 if you have a turbo for oil line. other than getting flange straightened out, possibly putting a oil pressure sensor in(if the other opening doesnt have one), you can plug it, id shy away from using tape there. (an)oil breather may be just above flange.
the line must have been cut,
