5spd manual transmission
I have a different 1.6l engine I want to install into my 89 Jetta. It is a mechanical one and the old one that is in the car now is a hydraulic. The old engine is tired with about 400,000 miles on it. The mechanical engine tests out with great compression numbers. Question is: will the current 5spd transmission bolt up to the mechanical 1.6 the same as to the hydraulic 1.6?

Re: 5spd manual transmission
Yes.
FYI that's a 020 tranny. It was the only manual tranny in mk1, mk2 and mk3 Vw's. Theirs lots out there I must have three kicking around.
