Where do i find a 1981 Caddy spare wheel
Hey everyone. Sorry for being the blown out new guy, but ive been soloing this vw ownership for over ten years now and its time to join the family. Ive been on a search for a spare rim for my caddy for a long time now with no success. I have bought a couple different 4 x100 wheels and they dont fit the center whole. Im in desperate need of a spare because I use my truck to transport a few hundred pounds of veggies to market two hours away and im tired of risking the inevitable. Any place to buy a rim that is guaranteed to fit and have my lug bolts still fit too? Thanks for this awesome community.

Put your location in your profile please. I have spare rims both 13" and 14" but shipping is pricey so if you tell us where you are maybe one of us is close by.

If you live in the rust belt, finding an older VW in a salvage yard is somewhat difficult, but if you live in the south or west, it should be fairly easy. Should be able to call around and find a wheel. Measure your center hub diameter and make sure the new rim has the 4x100bolt pattern and have the same hub diameter as yours.

Hey gents. Thanks for the speedy replies. I live in southern oregon. Ive called every junk yard within three hours and they all practically laugh when I ask if they have older vw trucks. Depending on shipping of course i would love to buy one of those off of you. Worth the peace of mind i am sure.

Also, would a spare wheel off a rabbit work?

I thought the front of a caddy was a rabbit!

Mk1 and Mk2 wheels should all fit your caddy, even if they are physically different (diameter, width etc). I will suggest that you compare the new wheel with your other wheels. Years ago I got a spare and when I got home, it physically looked different (the outside of the rim) and come to find out that there's different width or different back spacing on some of them. Ole 82 had a wider rim on it than some of the standard Rabbits. Just compare, but a Caddy is basically a Rabbit with an open bed in the back.

Yeah, a rabbit rim should fit and match.
Did you ask the local yards about rabbits or just pickups.
Just get some numbers off the rims you have now to make sure the width and offset are the same.
If no one on here is local rims aren't diesel specific so I'd check on vwvortex for someone local or ask on craigslist.

First check if this site's owner has anything.
If not, (competitor's name removed by moderator) has steel wheels as low as 25 bux, I rekon shipping will be ~50 bux.

Re: Where do i find a 1981 Caddy spare wheel
The Mk1 Caddy config. used VW Dasher rear brakes, larger than the Rabbit sedans/coupes used. Maybe that's the hang-up.(?)
What's the inside diameter (hub diameter) of the Caddy wheels you DO have? I'll check that dimension against my one of my Dashers' wheels.
Another thought: someone on craigslist might even respond to a 'parts-wanted' style ad; looks like there are cl editions for Eugene, K-Falls, Medford-Ashland & Roseburg, all a lot closer to your location than is mid-America.
Got an extra Dasher steelie (13 x 5 ?) here in SoCal, should one fit your needs, but shipping still ain't cheap (though Greyhound bus might not be too bad; IDK.). Agree with others that local sourcing is probably most cost-effective if available. Better luck with that.
