blown out rear gasket weirdness

Post by Fatmobile »

I am working on a guys Rabbit.
It has a rear seal leak so the trany gets dropped, clutch gets pulled and I find this:

The rear seal carrier gasket got pushed out.
Must have been internal block pressure.
I would have expected the seal to get shoved out before the gasket moved.
I'll have to check some of the other seals.

The trany was also full of gunk:

Someone could have used RTV on the gasket, which makes it more prone to movement due to the slipperyness of the RTV. That trans looks nasty like it got water in it.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count

That's what I'm thinking.
Someone left the trany outside without a speedo cable in it.
