Heater Core

Post by surfcam »

The heater core went on my mk3 99 tdi. This is a big job. The whole dash and frame that holds it has to come out. Lost track off how many hours it took me. Their's about 7 bolts on the firewall that hold the dash and heater core duckeding on. I found the one on the drivers side under wiper rod a challenge to get back on. The other problem I had was the clock spring fell apart when I took the steering wheel off. This is a connection for the airbag that allows you to turn the steering wheel. Just to be safe I would hold that part of the steering wheel when taking it off. Their is a clip that is suppost to hold it. Their is a good utube vid under mk3 heater core.

I guess I forgot to put the turbo hose clamp on the hose that goes from the turbo to the inter-cooler back on. Broke the piping apart to get at bolts holding the heater core duckeding when I replace the heater core. What a mess. It blew out 3 quarts of oil. I think it did anyway. Can't find any other leaks. I think turbo oil systems works like a hamster waterer with a constant drain. Is this possible?
