92 ecodeisel downpipe

Post by jimcroce »

Hi,
I'm new to this forum.
I have a 92 ecodiesel that I've been driving since new. The downpipe recently rusted away from the CAT. I'm having trouble finding the part to replace, so I'm considering using a flex pipe to bridge the small section that has rusted away (right where the downpipe is fused to CAT). I was going to eliminate the CAT altogether, but local inspection codes required the original emission equipment to be visably present.
Does anyone have a better idea?

The flex pipe should work ok, it might not add any more value than a straight pipe.
Have a nice day.

personally I would use a piece of strait pipe with the appropriate expanded section to fit over the good part of the down pipe. This assumes you can cut off enough of the bad section and get it out of the cat and still be able to mate up with the straight part of the downpipe. Not sure on the eco diesel but the RABBIT na pipe is 1 5/8 diameter (outside dia), just did a patch on mine using 1 3/4 OD pipe to sleeve a bad section until the weather is nicer and I can replace the whole downpipe.

You can shop around for a inexpensive muffler shop and they can make one for you. But I think even a inexpensive shop is not going to be cheap.
