My transmission went south and looking to buy a used replacement. Mine is a code 020 AGS. Which is better, the AGS or the AWY; or even a ASF?
Anyone have one for sale?

Re: 5 speed trans for 1.6na
Isn't the AWY the nasty eco diesel trany from '91? With the bad highway gears.
I've used AGS with good luck but it could use a higher 5th. I think it's .75 and would be better on the highway with the .71.
I'm not familiar with the ASF.

Re: 5 speed trans for 1.6na
I think I have what you're looking for. ASF with 5th gear swap. I also have a AGS AND ACH. I talked about the swap in a earlier thread below.
I did the 5th gear swap on a gas tranny (ASF) which has lowest final drive. I think I lost about 20% of my power in 5th but it's worth it to me to get 5-7% better mileage. RPM is only 2250 at 100km. Acceleration is down so fast merges will be slower.
I thought you could probably get one a lot closer. Shipping can cost quite a bit. I'm just across the Sweet Grass Montana border. I have a whole wack of 1.6 parts that I will eventually get listed. If someone wants to buy the whole lot I have a trailer I can sell to haul it all away.

Surfcam: I'd like to discuss buying the AGS one from you. I agonize over the shipping cost. I've been trying to locate one closer to Michigan. But let's discuss. Maybe a PM is best?
I don't know which is the "screamer" trans that turns high RPMs on the highway. I want to stay away from that. It seems like the larger the number on the final drive the higher the RPMs for highway speeds. But I may have it backwards.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I found an AGS in NY. Had it shipped to me. It's installed and all is well once again.
