1.5 diesel turbo?

so i have a 1978 rabbit diesel c n/a and i was seeing will a 1.6 turbo kit fit on there and im going to be running low boost and im doing arp head studs and thicker head gasket maybe water meath to keep egt's down but would the 1.5 hold up with only 7 to 10 psi?

assuming all else is good it should hold up for a while. Like all machines, life expectancy is directly related to work performed so the more you get the engine to produce, the less the engine will last. Running with a little boost and moderate driving techniques should get you good performance and mileage with decent engine life. Get an oil cooler installed. Keeping things cool is really important for longevity.

ok good to know and will a 1.6 turbo kit bolt wright on?

Yes it should. The 1.5 and 1.6 block are essentially identical. Same for the head as far as manifolds bolting up to it. Most 1.5s use the split downpipe vs the single "toilet bowl" version on the 1.6 but that would be eliminated anyway with a turbo setup since the downpipe off the turbo is completely different than what bolts up to the na exhaust manifold.

I think Fatmobile on this forum did a turbo setup on a 1.5 and should have some words of wisdom on the subject

Yeah, my VNT15 Rabbit had a 1.5.
Headstuds and you'll be fine.
'91 Golf gasser converted to a 12mm pump, M-TDI.
'84 1.6TD Rabbit with a VNT-15 turbo, still setup to run on vegetable oil.
'84 GTI with 1.7TD pistons and intercooled.
2003 TDI wagon
