Mk2 temp sensor

Post by haphazard_hoon »

Stupid question, but could not find a clear answer elsewhere so figured I'd ask...

Is it normal for a mk2 1.6td to have the coolant light flash *before* actually starting the engine?? Like while glow plugs are on, on a cold start more specifically, ie when the head/engine is not already warm. Just flashes for no longer than 5 seconds or so, I have never had temperature issues with it, ever, *fingers crossed* just a stupid question to see if that's normal.

P.s. my cluster is tach equipped, not the analog clock one so not sure if that would make a difference, ce1 I believe?

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it's normal.... mine does the same thing. I also have a tach cluster (86 GL).
Have a nice day.

Yep, to let you know it's working.
If it doesn't flash it probably won't warn you of low coolant or an overheat when it's running.
