1.6 head on 1.5 block?

Post by Early westy Shawn »

How and is it possible for a 1.6 head to be swapped onto a 1.5 block... if it means anything I work at a machine shop so adjustments aren't a problem... any help would be appreciated.

The oil return hole in the front of a 1.5 is smaller than the one on a 1.6.
They won't seal unless you put a hollow plug in the 1.6 head to reduce it's diameter.

I think Jack (our site sponsor) sells them. Good place to get all your VW diesel parts too.

The 1.5s had a problem with runaway,.. because the oil return hole is so small blowby speeding through it would not let oil drain back to the engine.
They fixed this with an extra hose from the front of the block to the intake hose coming from the valve cover.
If you have a 1.5 block make sure to add this hose.

Extra hose on the front of the block? Like something to reduce crankcase pressure? And you connect it to the pcv on top of the valve cover??

Yes, it usually "T"s into the line coming from the top of the valve cover,.. then heads on toward the top of the intake.
I don't have a picture of the factory recall hose they installed.
