API SN Oil in a Diesel Engine??

Post by Thomas M »

I got a couple of free gallons of Mobile One full synthetic 15W-50 oil from a friend.
It says it's for API Service SN, not a diesel designation.
It would make a great summer oil. Can I use it in my daily driver 1.6 NA engine.
Normally I run Chevron Delo 400 15-W-40.

Comments please.

Though it's been done with the VW diesels (a lot!), it seems like no one here is certain enough that there are/aren't any problems, to honestly give you a definitive answer. Might want to post your question on https://bobistheoilguy.com/

Bump. I'm curious also. Did you find any concrete answer?

I spoke to Mobil rep. They say the Mobil 1 15W-50 meets API CF(diesel) specs, although it is not listed on the container.

Scroll down on this page:
"According to ExxonMobil, Mobil 1 15W-50 is of the following quality level:
API CF"
