Re: FREE Transmissions
Do you know what the code is?
It's stamped on the plate underneath.
If it's stamped GC; no self-respecting VW diesel owner would want it.
Screaming just to go 65.
But the GP or sometimes the GL has a high gear that equals a 5 speed.
Where are you located, what area?

Re: FREE Transmissions
I had a 1980 Dasher w/ 4 speed that reved so high on the freeway
the valves audibly tapped the pistons. Probably needed a valve adjustment.
When the head was pulled all the piston crowns had dents.
Still got pretty good milage. Those transmissions are more for just
local driving in a small town. Drove that thing for years, couple trips down south,
and then kept it down there where it rusted away from the salt air.
Never had to touch the transmission, which was nice because I
didn't know how to fix much of anything back then.
I think the OP forgot he posted here

Re: FREE Transmissions
I really liked the dashers,... but the trany is in the wrong way, ha.
I never learned how to work on them.
He probably won't come back.
I have a pile of 020, diesel, 5 speeds, I should sell the FF.
And am starting to collect 02J tranys.
I think they would work great hooked up to a hopped up 1.6TD.
