Here's a classic old vacuum pump:
https://wausau.craigslist.org/pts/d/ste ... 11653.html
It has the compression fitting connector on the side because a curly Q supplies oil
from the oil filter mount to the vacuum pump.
This is from an old '79, 1.5 diesel.
Later vacuum pumps supplied oil from the oil pump, up through a hole in the center of the shaft.

I think engines that used those might have had different (gasser?) oil pumps too.

Maybe,.. the oil pump shaft was a different length.
You couldn't just put this on a later engine, even with the oil filter mount and curly Q oil supply tube.
The oil pump would have to go with it.

Re: Classic old vacuum pump, you don't see often
Doesn't that go with the mk1 intermidiate shafts that spin opposite the 1.6 diesel?
I was thinking that vac pump would be useful if someone wanted to run the
gasser/1.5D int. shaft and oil pump.

Re: Classic old vacuum pump, you don't see often
I don't think so.
My first Rabbit was a '79 and,... it was a long time ago but I think it had the curly Q oil line to the vacuum pump and the I-shaft was the same as other 1.5D I-shafts.
Different than a 1.6D I-shaft because the bevel wasn't cut to clear the crank,
but it spun the same direction because of the way the belt drove the I-shaft pully.
On the gasser the belt runs to the outside of the sprocket, on all the diesels it runs to the inside of the pully before going to the crank.
So it drives the pully the opposite way.
